INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

2011-2013Griffith University: The BRAVE Program

Senior developer on >2,500-page psychological therapy program & research project

The BRAVE Program is an online therapy system, operated jointly by the psychology departments of Griffith University and the University of Queensland. The program is designed to help children, teenagers and their parents overcome the challenges of anxiety, using audio, video and animation, interactive activities, and personalised content.

My role was to take charge of the design and development aspects of the project:

  • Rebuilding and revising over 2,500 content sections, designing new content, and converting old content from its outdated Flash format to modern, standards-compliant, mobile-ready HTML/CSS format, animated with JavaScript and seamlessly loaded with AJAX
  • Developing a system to record program participants' responses with PHP/MySQL, allow administrative review of this content, and enable automated notifications and updates to users
  • Maintaining contact with the project team, from the program's creator and lead researcher - Griffith University's deputy vice chancellor - to the individual researchers from three different universities in two countries

  • Creating advertising placements and directory listings for the company's clients, both online and in the printed directory

In five years of freelance design, I've produced websites and assets, logos and brand schemes, print outcomes and more.
